About Dariush Mehrjouyi’s latest film, “The man in orange”

Yahya Natanzi

All the troubles and controversy initially started with the public showing of the movie “Santoori”. With a rich background in filmmaking and directing of memorable films such as “The cow”, “The tenants”, “Hamoon”, and “Leyla”, Dariush Mehrjouyi intentionally made a change in the style of his films and began creating movies very different to his usual artistic approach. “Tehran, Tehran” and “Beloved Sky” are the direct results of this change, and have caused many accusations to be made about this experienced and famous filmmaker. The public display of “The man in orange” this spring resulted in even more accusations than before, and made Mehrjouyi much more well-known in the community. Some people have called Mehrjouyi’s new approach in his recent films, especially “The man in orange”, a continuation of the artistic approach displayed in his previous films, while others objected, denying any cinematic value in such films. The two sides had their own reasons and are still emphasizing their stands.
